Meet the craftsman

Wood Strip Kayak (1)_edited.jpg

Hey, I'm David. I’m a hobbyist woodworker. My mentor, Uncle Charlie, taught me how to visualize and create unique and functional wood products using a variety of wood-smith techniques. The wood I use is primarily from Lockman Hardwoods in Mullica Hill, NJ, and is sourced locally from around Southern New Jersey and the greater Delaware Valley, and milled on site by The Holzmeister, John Lockman. From the varieties of walnut, cherry, ash, elm, maple, oak, cedar, and other species, I make bespoke bowls, cutting/bread/cheese/charcuterie boards, butcher block table tops, wine bottle and glass racks, music boxes, tea boxes, and a lot of sawdust.

The guy in the kayak is me, and yes, I built it. It is a 14ft wood strip kayak, made from more than 600 individual pieces of walnut, Alaskan yellow pine, and Eastern red cedar. It was a labor of love, which is a good thing, because it took me 168 hours to build.

I really don’t make much [any] profit from the pieces I make, but I do try to buy a sleeping bag for a homeless person for each $500 in sales. If you see something in the gallery of past pieces that you like, get in contact with me and we can talk about making something similar for you that fits your style, personality, or need.
